Every “theater user" who recalls their first experience using drama methods to engage different communities probably walked cautiously, like crossing a river by feeling the stones. Indeed, as part of the “theater user" group, we also followed in the footsteps of our predecessors to reach where we are today.
This book is composed of five chapters and two appendices. Each chapter begins with a brief introduction to the theory of a specific drama training and form, followed by practical exercises that users can apply. The content includes:
- Theater Games: Help participants relax their bodies and minds, become sensitive, reopen, and break free from rigid routines and stagnation.
- Improvisation: Utilize the creative ability of the body, space, and personal resources to respond to external stimuli at the moment, creating “rehearsed" surprising effects by combining and transforming elements.
- Devised Theater: Break the mode of mainstream theater production, transforming “division of labor" into “collaborative work"; the devisers “tailor-make" roles, content, and forms to produce unique creations.
- Process Drama: The term “Process Drama" has become synonymous with “Drama-in-Education". Common themes include environmental protection, social injustice, and life education. Its advantage lies in its vast exploration space, aligning with the artistic characteristics of drama.
- Forum Theater: Use theater to change the world! The originator, Augusto Boal, once said, “If you don’t change this world, no one will do it for you, and everything will inevitably remain as it is – which is the last thing anyone wants!"
- Physical Movement Exercises: Try to bring the body to life through simple exercises.
- Initial Exploration of Facilitating Techniques: Combine facilitating, teaching, and observation experiences to contemplate the key points of group interaction.
