劇場導演、演員、戲劇藝術教育工作者、監製、藝術行政人員

1990年開始,Indy 跟隨霍達昭在藝穗會學習默劇,開始接觸劇場表演及創作,並曾加入藝穗默劇實驗室。

1996年畢業於香港演藝學院戲劇學院導演系,畢業作品為原創劇《藍月亮》,在校內屢獲成龍慈善獎學金。畢業後,以獨立身份參與不同劇團、機構及大、中、小學、青少年及展能藝術的戲劇教育、表演、導演、形體、創意活動及企業培訓計劃。

Indy善於透過編作、形體動作、即興創作的劇場形式,開啟參與者的創意思維,發掘個人潛能及提昇人民質素。曾為香港兆基創意書院、香港美感教育機構、香港展能藝術會、上愛荷華大學 (香港分校) 表演藝術課、香港藝術學院、國際演藝評論家協會 (香港分會)、新域劇團社區戲劇發展計劃、中英劇團文化大使計劃、香港教育大學、香港大學通識課程、香港浸會大學、香港學校戲劇節、聖士堤反會、明日教育機構、突破機構、社區文化發展中心、YMCA青少年藝術、香港話劇團外展教室、Arts’ Options、藝術在醫院及誇啦啦藝術集匯等策劃及推行戲劇、藝術教育及文化發展項目。曾為香港學校戲劇節首席評判,TVB J2及商業電台叱吒903合辨的「十人巷」擔任戲劇導師及評判。

Indy曾跟隨David Glass、Dan Chumley、Keith Johnstone、Johnathan Fox、Jo Salas、Julie Lacy、John Wright、Veronica Needa、Peta Lily、Robert Landy、Nancy-Stark-Smith、Daniel Stein、Yoshi Oida、Adrian Jackson、John O’Toole、Chris Baldwin、Philippe Gaulier 、Sue Buckmaster、Ben Keaton、Chris Lynam、Gecko Theatre及 菲律賓教育劇場 (PETA) 等學習默劇、小丑、意大利即興喜劇、形體劇場、即興劇場、接觸即興、戲偶、一人一故事、面具、論壇劇場、劇場表演、民眾劇場、編作劇場及戲劇教育等。

1997年,Indy與禤思敏、梁嘉傑及黃世鈞組《圍威喂劇團》,集合編、導、演創作人材,以發掘編作劇場、形體及具實驗性的劇場演出為主。在1997年至2001年間,創作作品有《四隻腳》、《愛麗絲夢遊仙境之行尸走肉版》、《愛麗絲》、《屎尿屁》、《氹氹轉.桃花園》及《流麗感性》等。

2004年,赴英國倫敦,於Royal Central School of Speech and Drama深造,獲應用劇場碩士(社區戲劇及戲劇教育)。期間為倫敦及曼徹斯特的華人社區舉行戲劇工作坊。

2005年至2008年,加入PIP文化產業 (前身為劇場組合) 的PIP藝術學校任藝術教育高級主任,負責導演、教學、外展及課程拓展工作﹕《神經入門》、《神經窗口》、《導亦有道》及《編作劇場》,並策劃及推行PIP-POP青年藝術課程,編作及導演製作《神經.交享樂》、《不做代言人》及《尋找聖誕小肥半》。

2005年,獲亞洲文化協會利希慎基金獎學金,於2006至2007年間到美國考察劇場藝術、出席教育劇場會議及參加劇場工作坊。在林肯中心劇場的導演實驗室,與來自美國及海外的年青導演交流,及後參與成立跨文化導演組織The Internationalists。

演出方面,Indy 曾參與無人地帶《夜探王屋》(助導及演出)及《我們互不相識的一小時》、劇場組合《再見紅日出》、《大小不良》、《射日》及《掛在樹上的皮鞋》、新域劇團《螞蟻上樹》、亞洲民眾戲劇節協會《阿培之旅》、前進進戲劇工作坊《再見吧! 臨流鳥》、《17個可能與不可能在2012發生的戲劇場景》、樹寧‧現在式單位《人之初子》、《慢慢開往起點的快車》、《海闊天空》、瘋祭舞台青年戲劇家系《花開風來2》、Arts’ Options《教我如何不愛爸》及再構造劇場x Felixism Creation《未來簡史》等製作。

主要導演製作有春天舞台《五個相撲的少年》及《100%激流女情》(三度公演)、中英劇團《架勢堂》、森美小儀歌劇團《19樓半的夏天》、《奪標》、《大衛營》、《小孖俠》及《加樽抽》、PIP劇場的《尋找聖誕小肥羊》、圍威喂劇團《氹氹轉.桃花園》、無言天地 x 三藩市默劇團《柬埔寨的紅衣裳》(助理導演)、瘋祭舞台青年戲劇家系列《剖你一個措手不及》(合導及演出),香港青年基督徒劇團《新天新地》(合導)、香港展能藝術會《話短話祥》及《等待明光》(三度公演、澳門及台灣演出)、iStage《相聚21克》(首演及重演,導演及演出)、前進進戲劇工作坊《斷食少女.k》、多空間《消失中的水牛》及《阿牛回來了》(兼任編劇)、香港藝術節《六月戀人》、毛俊輝戲劇計劃《情話紫釵》及《李後主》(助理導演) 、好戲量《一個無政府主義者的意外死亡》(導演及演出) 、藝穗會創作體驗劇場《她和他的時間之流》(聯合導演)、誇啦啦藝術集匯 – 藝動人生 《Nine》及《突破結界的真愛》及不同類型的學校及社區巡迴製作。

2010年,以導演身份參與香港藝術節及毛俊輝戲劇計劃共同策劃的「友導計劃」。

Indy 亦是一位出色的獨腳戲表演者,以簡約及靈活的劇場形式,自編、自導、自演《男人事.男人是…》、改編自契訶夫《海鷗》的《我不是一隻海鷗》,前者獲第四届香港小劇場最佳男演員提名。在留美期間,以旅美的生活及體驗為題,創作了獨腳戲《三個骨》。2018年,與英國演員Bill Aitchison 為社區文化發展中心創作有關日佔香港時期的獨腳戲演出《明日陽光燦爛》,並於2019年夏天到英國倫敦、列斯及莫克姆巡演。

2020年至2022年在疫情期間,Indy以網上演出及錄像形式,參與社區文化發展中心的《四日談》(靠邊站藝術節 – 網上演出) 及《抗逆藝術節》及《抗逆藝術節2.0》(網上演出及工作坊) ,並以《明日陽光燦爛》參與東亞民眾戲劇節 及 亞洲編劇節 (韓國,網上錄播演出)。導演由社區文化發展中心及BEYOND Bollywood主辦的獨腳舞蹈劇《邊緣.視角》,並參與國際環境劇場節 (韓國、網上錄播演出)。

著有以劇場訓練與戲劇教育為題的理論.工具書《劇場的用家》(黃婉萍合著,2011年首版、2017年再版),編寫藝術評論、文化及藝術教育文章亦刋登於報章、藝評及應用戲劇/劇場雜誌。2015年,參加由Clore Leadership Programme 及香港大學合辦的文化領航學程,及完成伯特利神學院輔導學證書課程。

海外演出及交流方面,Indy曾到加拿大的卡加利及渥太華演出《香港心連心》,印度、尼泊爾、孟加拉及泰國演出《亞培之旅》,參與澳門藝穗節,上海、台灣、釜山參與小亞細亞劇場網絡演出,廣洲演出《17個可能與不可能在2012發生的戲劇場景》,上海、北京及深圳參與《情話紫釵》製作,2017年出席International Theatre Institute 大會會議、2019年在英國巡演《明日陽光燦爛》、並到訪紐約、英國及西班片等地出席劇場工作坊交流。

曾參與本地電影及電視拍攝,包括《花果飄零》、《Hong Kong 1942》、《風景》、《奇緣灰姑娘》、《黑色氣劇》、《愛麗絲在美好世界》、《動物樂園》及《南海十三郎》等,香港電台電視節目 – 《性本善》、《風雨同路》、《柏林周記》、《直播青年》、《香江歲月》等及多個電視廣告。

2011 至 2013,Indy為香港演藝學院表演藝術教育中心統籌 (教學及參與),2013至2014年為香港演藝學院表演藝術教育中心講師 (表演藝術教育),主要策劃及推動社區藝術及應用學習課程。

2014 至2019年,Indy擔任香港演藝學院表演藝術教育中心表演藝術教育主任、應用學習課主任及社區發展主任,籌辦不同類型的外展教育活動,包括大型社區藝術計劃《演藝馬拉松.遊樂深水埗》及《演藝之旅》。前者獲香港藝術發展局頒發2012年香港藝術發展獎「藝術教育獎」(非學校組) 銀獎及獲聯合國教科文組織本土文化及創意教育研究觀測所確認為「Star Projects/Programs (SPP)」,後者獲得香港藝術發展局頒發2015年香港藝術發展獎「藝術教育獎」(非學校組) 優異獎。除此次外,有系統地策劃推廣表演藝術,包括任應用學習課程《舞出新機 – 舞蹈藝術》、《由戲開始.劇藝縱橫》及《由踐入藝﹕粵劇入門》,同時,亦積極拓展本地與國際網絡,以提高社區及政府機關對表演藝術教育的關注。

2019年起,Indy擔任Arts’ Options 《長.智.戲》長者戲劇專業培訓先導計劃的課程總監及主要導師,為演出《飛越老人院》、《26K》及《新耆士22》作排練指導,合導《羅伯歐與茱麗葉》、參與策劃《金齡多元藝術寶藏》論壇2021及2023、英國交流演出《回甘百味》等項目。

自2015年開始,為社區文化發展中心帶領深水埗區的文化導賞活動,讓本土文化得以承傳,以文化旅遊的形式,在街頭展現《一九八幾的一小時.生活圈》的自傳劇場。

曾為Arts’ Options及香港戲劇創作室創團成員,香港學術及資歷評審局委任專家 (戲劇)、香港兆基創意書院外評專家及香港藝術發展局民選委員及戲劇組主席。

Indy 現定居英國,曾為Rose Bruford College 的Foundation Acting Course (Brighton)的短期兼職導師。

在2023年,Indy 合導由莫昭如自編自演的獨腳戲《等候發落鳥》及策劃長者戲《回甘百味》英國巡演,以上兩個製作均為2023年列斯文化年的活動,並在Leeds Playhouse 演出。《明日陽光燦爛》在愛丁堡及臺北藝穗節演出,並獲臺北藝穗節精選獎。Indy現正計劃在英國巡迴《明日陽光燦爛》(香港人部份)。

Theater director, Actor, Theater Arts Education and Applied Theatre Pracititoner, Producer, and Arts Administrator

Since 1990, Indy studied with Philip Fok at Hong Kong Fringe Club, and began to get in touch with theatre. He was a member of the Fringe Mime Lab.

In 1996, he graduated from the Directing Major of the School of Drama of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. His graduation work is the original drama “Lost under Blue Moon", and he has repeatedly granted Jackie Chan Charity Scholarships in the school. After graduating, he participated in different theatre groups, institutions and universities, secondary schools, primary schools, youth and performing arts in theatre education, performance, directing, physical theatre, creative programmes and corporate training programmes as an independent artist.

Indy is good at opening the creative thinking of participants, exploring personal potential, and improving the quality of the people through the theatre form of devising, body movement, and improvisation. Worked for Hong Kong Shau Kee School of Creativity, Hong Kong Aesthetic Education Institute, Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong, Upper Iowa University (Hong Kong Branch), Hong Kong Arts School, International Association of Theatre Critics (Hong Kong), Community Theatre Development Scheme of Prospects Theatre Company, Cultural Ambassador Scheme of Chung Ying Theatre, The Education University of Hong Kong, General Studies of Hong Kong University, Hong Kong Baptist University, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong School Drama Festival, St. Stephen’s Society, Ming Ri Arts Education Institute, Breakthrough, Centre for Community Cultural Development, Youth Arts of YMCA Youth Arts, Outreach Classroom of Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, Arts’ Options, Arts in Hospitals and The Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection plan and implement theatre, arts education and cultural projects. He was the chief judge of the Hong Kong School Drama Festival, and the drama instructor and judge of “Ten People’s Lane" co-recognized by TVB J2 and Commercial Radio 903.

Indy has followed David Glass, Dan Chumley, Keith Johnstone, Johnathan Fox, Jo Salas, Julie Lacy, John Wright, Veronica Needa, Peta Lily, Robert Landy, Nancy-Stark-Smith, Daniel Stein, Yoshi Oida, Adrian Jackson, John O ‘Toole, Chris Baldwin, Shaghayegh Beheshti, Meredith Monk and Ensemble, Philippe Gaulier, Sue Buckmaster、Ben Keaton、Chris Lynam、Gecko Theatre and the Philippine Educational Theatre (PETA), among others, have studied Mime, Clown, Commedia Dell’arte, Physical Theatre, Improvisational Theatre, Contact Improvisation, Puppetry, Playback Theatre, Masks, Forum Theatre, Theatre Performance, People Theatre, Devising Theatre, and Theatre Education.

In 1997, Indy teamed up with Suzanne Huen, Tenson Leung, and Prince Wong for “Come On Theatre", which brought together writers, directors, and performers, focusing on discovering and devising theatre, physical and experimental theatre performances. From 1997 to 2001, his works include “Four in One", “Alice in Wonderland: The Walking Dead", “Ai Li Si", “The Shitty Show", " Peach Flower Blossom of the Upotia in the Heart" and “The Flow of Beauty", etc.

In 2004, he went to London, England to study at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and obtained a Master of Arts in Applied Theatre (Community Drama and Drama Education). During this period, he facilitated drama workshops for the Chinese communities in London and Manchester.

From 2005 to 2008, he joined PIP Art School under the umbrella of PIP Cultural Industry (formerly known as Theatre Ensemble), served as the Senior Chief of Art Education, responsible for Directing, Teaching, Developing the Outreach and Curriculum: “Foundation of PIP", “Foundation of PIP II", “Rules of Directing" and “Devising Theatre”, and planning and implementation of PIP-POP youth art programmes, devising and directing the production of “I、me、mine”, “U and I” and “Chubby Chubby Sheep Sheep”.

In 2005, he was awarded the Lee Hysan Foundation Scholarship by the Asian Cultural Council. From 2006 to 2007, he visited the United States to observe Theater Arts, attended Educational Theater conferences and participated in theater workshops. In the Director’s Lab of the Lincoln Center Theater, he worked with young directors from the United States and overseas, and later participated in the establishment of “The Internationalists”, a cross-cultural director organization. During his stay in the United States, he created a solo performance called “Three Quarters" with the theme of his life and experience.

In terms of performances, Indy has participated in No Man’s Land “Once Upon a Time in Wong Uk" (Assistant Director and Performer) and “The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other", Theatre Ensemble “Sunrise, Sunset II", “The Twains", “Shooting Sun" and “Leather Shoes Hanging on the Tree", “Ants on the Tree" by Prospects Theatre, “Yours Most Obediently” by the Asian People’s Theatre Festival Society, “Fly Fly Fly, Archaeology Bird!, “17 Scenarios likely or Unlikely to Happen in 2012″ by On and On Theatre Workshop, “The First Son of Man", “The Express Train Slowly Towards the Beginning", and “To Touch the Untouchable Sky" by Shu Ning Presentation Unit, “Blossoms in the Wind 2″, Young Dramatist Series by Theatre Fanatico  “I Never Sang for My Father" by Arts’ Options and “A Brief History of the Future" by Reframe Theatre x Felixism Creation and other productions.

In 2010, as a director, he participated in the “Mentorship Project" jointly planned by the Hong Kong Arts Festival and the Fredric Mao’s Drama Project.

Indy is also an excellent solo performer. Using the simple and organic theater form, he wrote, directed, and performed in “A Better Man" and “A Better Art" which was adapted from Chekhov’s “Seagull", the former was nominated for the Best Actor at the 4th Hong Kong Theatre Libre. In 2018, he created another solo performance in form of double bill with a British actor, Bill Aitchison, “It Won’t Be Long Now" which was about the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong for the Centre for Community Cultural Development. The performance toured London, Leeds, and Morecambe in the UK in the summer of 2019.

During the epidemic period from 2020 to 2022, Indy participated in the “Tesserismeron” (Along the Edge Arts Festival – Online Performance) and “Arts for Resilience Festival" and “Arts for Resilience Festival 2.0″ by the Centre for Community Cultural Development in the form of online performances and workshop  and participated in the East Asian People’s Theatre Festival and the Asian Playwright  Festival (South Korea, online video streaming) with “It Won’t Be Long Now". Recently, he directed the solo dance-drama performance called “My Life on the Fringe” and participated in the International Environmental Theater Festival (Korea, online video streaming).

He is author of the book, “Users of Theater" (co-authored with Estella Wong, first edition in 2011, reprinted in 2017), writing articles on art criticism, culture and art education, and published in newspapers, art critics and applied drama/theater magazines.

In 2015, he participated in the Advanced Cultural Leadership Programme which was  co-organized by the Clore Leadership Programme and the University of Hong Kong, and completed the Counseling Certificate Programme of Bethel Seminary.

In the areas of overseas performances and cultural exchanges, Indy has performed “Hong Kong Heartbeat" in Calgary and Ottawa in Canada, “Our Most Obediently" in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Thailand, participated in Macau Fringe Festival, Shanghai, Taiwan, Busan Participated in the Little Asian Theatre Network, performed “17 Scenarios of Likely or Unlikely to Happen in 2012” in Guangzhou, participated in the production of “A Liaison" in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen, attended the Conference of International Theatre Institute conference in 2017, and toured with “It Won’t Be Long Now” in the UK in 2019, and participated in theatre workshops and cultural exchange activities in New York, the United Kingdom and Spain.

He participated in local film and TV shooting, including “Drifting Petals”, “Hong Kong 1942″, “Pseudo Secular", “Cinderella", “Black Drama", “Alice in a Wonderful World", “Animal Paradise" And “A Phoenix Madman” etc., Radio Television Hong Kong TV programmes – “Sex Education", “Wind and Rain", “Berlin Weekly", “Live Youth", “Hong Kong Years", etc. and many TV commercials.

From 2011 to 2013, he was the coordinator (teaching and participation) of the Performing Arts Education Center of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and from 2013 to 2014, he was a lecturer (performing arts education) of the Performing Arts Education Center of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, mainly planning and promoting community arts and Applied Learning courses.

From 2014 to 2019, Indy served as Head of Performing Arts Education, Course Leader of Applied Learning Course and Head of Community Engagement of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, organizing different types of Community Engagement and Education activities, including the large-scale community art project “Performing Arts Marathon@ Sham Shui Po" and “Smart Journey to Performing Arts". The former was awarded the 2012 Hong Kong Arts Development Award “Art Education Award" (Non-School Category) Silver Award by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and was recognized as “Star Projects/Programs (SPP)" by the UNESCO Research Observatory for Indigenous Culture and Creative Education, the latter won the 2015 Hong Kong Arts Development Awards “Art Education Award" (non-school category) Merit Award from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. In addition, he  systematic planned and promoted performing arts via Applied Learning courses “Taking a Chance on Dance”, “The Essentials of Theatre Arts”, and “Introduction to Cantonese Opera”, while actively expanding local and international networks to increase the community and government sector’s attention to performing arts education.

Since 2019, Indy has served as Course Director and Key Instructor of “Elderly Inspirational Drama Workshop” organized by Arts’ Options. He also supported the rehearsal of performances like “Flying Over the Nursing Home", “26K" and “New Age 22″, co-director “Romeo and Juliet" and participating in the curation of arts forum called “Golden Age Diversified Art Treasures" and other projects.

Since 2015, he has led cultural guided tours in Sham Shui Po for the Centre for Community Cultural Development in order to heritage local culture and story to the next generation. In the form of cultural tourism, “One Hour Life Circle in 198X – the Autobiographical Theater”.

He was a founding member of Arts’ Options and the Hong Kong Dramatists, an appointed specialist (Drama) of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academics & Vocational Qualifications, an external examiner of the Hong Kong Shau Kee School of Creativity, and an elected member and chairman of Drama group the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Indy is residenting in UK and working as a part-time tutor in Foundation Acting Course (Brighton), Rose Bruford College.

In 2023, Indy co-directed a solo performance named “Cormorants" which was written and performed by Mok CHiu Yu and coordinated the UK tour of “Embrace of the Life" for Elderly Inspirational Drama. Both productions were one of the events of Leeds Culture of the Year 2023 and performed in Leeds Playhouse. Indy also toured “It Won’t Be Long Now" in Edinburgh and Taipei Fringe Festival. It was granted the Taipei Fringe First Choice Awards. Indy is working of the tour plan of “It Won’t Be Long Now" (Hong Konger’s part).
